Doors Open events are free public celebrations that invite people to explore the buildings, spaces, and stories that shape a city’s identity.  During Doors Open venues of architectural, cultural, civic, and social significance open their doors to the public—many offering behind-the-scenes access not typically available. From historic landmarks to cutting-edge workspaces, sacred spaces to industrial sites, these programs are designed to spark curiosity and deepen connection between people and place.

Doors Open in Duluth and Minneapolis

Rethos produces Doors Open Minneapolis and Doors Open Duluth because our cities are worth exploring and sharing. While the cities are different in scale and story, the spirit of Doors Open is the same: to foster curiosity, pride, and connection by offering access to meaningful spaces.

We do this work because preservation is about more than buildings. It’s about helping people feel rooted in the places they live. It’s about making architecture, history, and civic life approachable and exciting. It’s about encouraging people to care for their communities — not just by looking back, but by looking closely, and looking forward.
